ALPHABET SOUP (2021)

The 2021 installment of Alphabet Soup: Theater from Queer Voices was held from Oct 15-23 at The Unity Performing Arts Center in the lower level of Unity Temple on the Plaza.

These plays were originally scheduled to for the 2020 festival which was canceled due to Covid-19.

 

PLAYS:

The Damp, Dark Room Just Off the Parlor by John Adams (he/him) - In Victorian England, a junior investigator with Scotland Yard investigates a wealthy couple's bizarre murder. But danger looms from within the couple's home -- and within their troubled son.

Pink Baby. Blue Blanket. by Joel Barrett (he/him) - Our narrator gets a blanket at birth and spends half a lifetime torn between the comfort and the restrictions it brings.

Operation Find the Selkie by Diane Hightower (she/her) - In the not-too-distant future, lesbian submariners Captain Morgan Morgan and Corpsman 1st Class Elena Marie search for a Selkie who may hold the key to saving the planet and humankind.

Late Nite Interaction by Kraig Kensinger (he/him) - Strange bedfellows lead two men to navigate the insecurities of sexual desire.

What Happens at Jock Night by Kevin King (he/him) - Josh is at Jock Night at a gay bar for the first time. His friends think he’s overdressed.

Step Zero by Em Swenson (she/her) - An insider look at an AA meeting. Ryan walks into their first meeting and immediately questions whether they should join this quirky group.

All the Best Ones by Adam Yarbrough (he/him) - What’s the perfect recipe for a stressful formal dinner? Meeting your boyfriend’s mother and ex-wife.
